Dearest patients of Dr. Morgan and Dr. Xie,
Greetings to all from my home office! I have finally found a few moments during my daughter’s
naptime to sneak in here and write this letter.
It is with a heavy heart and teary eyes that I share some important news. As you all know, I am a
Physician Assistant and have been working alongside Dr. Morgan and Dr. Xie since 2020. The PA role was a great asset to the clinic, and together we were able to increase the number of patients rostered at the clinic and improve access to healthcare for the existing patients. Recently, the OMA has proposed some changes to the way they are funding family medicine, specifically FHOs (Family Health Organizations).
While these changes are positive and welcomed by most physicians, there are still some uncertainties in
the way this will impact PAs.
Sadly, due to this uncertainty, we've decided it is not possible to further my employment with KHWC.
I will greatly miss the amazing team at KHWC. It was an incredible start to my career and I have
so much gratitude towards Dr. Xie and Dr. Morgan. The support staff have also been so wonderful and I can see how passionate they are about caring for patients. And, of course, I must extend my gratitude
and appreciation to all of you, the patients, for four special years spent as one of your healthcare
providers. I have been overwhelmed at how many of you have warmly accepted me as part of your
healthcare team; I feel truly honored to have gained the privilege of your trust. I have enjoyed caring for each and every one of you; hearing your stories, sharing your emotions, and following the highs and
lows of your health journeys. Thank you for entrusting me with caring for yourselves and your families.
Many of you have also become amazing advocates for the PA profession and I cannot tell you how much this means to me.
I am sad to say that I will not have the opportunity to return to say goodbye. You all hold a
special place in my heart and I am comforted by the knowledge that you have incredible family
physicians and support staff who will continue to always ensure you have the best possible care. As for
myself, I have joined the Department of Neurosurgery at The Ottawa Hospital. This is an exciting
opportunity and I look forward to carrying the knowledge, skills, and experience I’ve gained from caring for you into this next role.
Lastly, as I know many of you have inquired, my transition into motherhood has been wonderfully rewarding. My daughter (now 14 months old) is bright, kind, empathetic and healthy. Thank you for all your well wishes prior to my maternity leave.
Thank you again for your trust. I wish you all continued health and happiness.
Warm regards,
Emma Lacourciere, BSc, CCPA
